For 25 years, I have directed and consulted on dozens of mixed-methods (quantitative, qualitative, participatory) evaluation studies, R&D projects, and needs and assets assessments in the health, social, and educational sectors, and I have provided evaluation capacity-building services. My topical areas of expertise include adolescent sexual and reproductive health, HIV prevention, maternal and child health, older adult social isolation, student college and career readiness, and leadership development. My clients have included non-profits, grantmakers, local and international governmental organizations, and universities. Geographically, I have conducted fieldwork in diverse U.S. communities, as well as in Latin America and the Caribbean. Since 2008, I have conducted my work through J. Solomon Consulting, LLC, based in Mountain View, California. My two employees and I take a client-centered and learning-focused approach to our projects, and we have particular interest to address issues of equity, including language justice. Prior to working as a program evaluator and applied social science researcher, I completed a Ph.D. in linguistics at Stanford University. As part of the doctoral program, I conducted 1.5 years of field research in Yucatán, Mexico. I am a native speaker of English and have full professional fluency in Spanish and intermediate Portuguese skills. I am also conversational in French, Italian, and Yucatec Maya. Since 2006, I have served on the board of directors of the human rights and human needs non-profit Human Agenda, based in San Jose, California. I also served for six years on the City of Mountain View (California) Human Relations Commission.
