Ms Mwansa Charity Njelesani, MA, was recognized as one of 25 emerging or mature leaders in the field of HIV and AIDS prevention by UNAIDS & UNDP through the St. George’s House Windsor Castle Leadership Initiative on HIV/AIDS. Mwansa has nineteen years of experience expanding strategic partnerships and leading and mentoring teams in HIV prevention globally, with a particular focus on sub-Saharan Africa. She has experience conducting research and analyzing trends to inform policy and practice. She formed part of the leadership that spearheaded the introduction of Oral PreExposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) in 2018 and, more recently, Cabotegravir long-acting for HIV Prevention (Injectable PrEP) in Zambia. She was also part of the leadership team that supported the national response to COVID-19, including the eventual introduction of COVID-19 vaccines. She has worked for various organizations, including UNAIDS, UNFPA, JSI, and the UNESCO ESA regional HIV team amongst others. Her roles have honed her skills at providing thought leadership related to HIV, HIV prevention, PreExposure Prophylaxis, and, more recently, COVID-19.
